BA and BS Degrees in Global & Community Health
We are pleased to share that UC Santa Cruz now offers both a BA and BS in Global & Community Health (starting in Fall 2022). For more information on these degree programs, please visit gch.ucsc.edu.
Both degrees are interdisciplinary in design, featuring courses from across the Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts and Engineering to prepare students for a variety of future health careers. Both degrees share the same core introductory course – Foundations for Global and Community Health – which students must complete with a grade C or better in order to declare the GCH BA as a Major and which is also a requirement for both the GCH BS concentrations. And both degrees further share a set of common upper division courses in which students have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another as they work on practical health challenges facing real world communities.
Beyond their similarities, the two degrees offer distinct pathways to degree completion. The BA gives students the opportunity to chart diverse routes through social science and humanities courses related to the social determinants of health, health policy, and well-being. Meanwhile, the BS offers two distinct tracks, one that is biomedical in focus and concentrated in biology, and the other focused instead on public and environmental health science.
