Solidarity Economics

The Institute for Social Transformation and the Equity Research Institute at USC collaborated on a joint project called Solidarity Economics. This work drew on researchers, organizers, stakeholders, and policymakers to provide a vision for our economy; to identify opportunities, eliminate barriers, and promote new narratives to build a more inclusive economy.
The project resulted in a book called Solidarity Economics: Why Mutuality and Movements Matter by Institute for Social Transformation Faculty Fellow Chris Benner and his collaborator Manuel Pastor. The book provides a powerful blueprint for an equitable future.
The Solidarity Economics framework has since been applied to several major equitable economic development efforts across California, including the Salinas Inclusive Economic Development Initiative, the Community Economic Mobilization initiative, the Irvine Foundation Priority Communities Initiative, the Lithium Battery Electric Supply Chain Workforce Analysis, and development visioning work for the Salton Sea region.
