Campus + Community
Commitment – Collaboration – Creation
Launched in the 2022-2023 school year, Campus + Community is a center dedicated to supporting ethical and mutually beneficial engaged scholarship at UC Santa Cruz.
Engaged scholarship includes scholarly activities and teaching conducted in partnership with community-based agencies and organizations. Through social and environmental responsibility, diversity, and good stewardship, Campus + Community enables the campus to extend its impact locally, nationally, and globally.
Campus + Community’s leaders and affiliated members recognize that social justice and social change require a critical approach to community engagement. This approach values the knowledge held in the histories, lived experiences, and expertise of those from marginalized and oppressed communities. In our community engagements, we aim to: create and sustain authentic, equitable, and reciprocal collaboration; jointly produce, curate, and disseminate knowledge and understandings; and share resources in support of engaged scholarship
The Institute for Social Transformation has been an important partner and incubator for the center, providing resources, infrastructure, and administrative support.
Today, Campus + Community (C+C) demonstrates how community partnerships promote innovation and transformation for all. The Institute for Social Transformation has enabled C+C to launch its own website, facilitate cross-department collaboration, and connect students with experiential learning opportunities.
