Practical Activism Conference

Practical Activism will be holding its 19th annual day-long conference on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 in a hybrid format. The conference will take place in the Multipurpose Room at College Nine and John Lewis College. Our day-long, student-led conference aims to further local and global change in our community by representing diverse perspectives on a variety of social justice issues, and providing hands on tools to make practical change. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about many social-justice related topics in student-organized workshops and special-sessions. This year’s PAC takes on special salience given the recent naming of College Ten as John R. Lewis College.This year’s workshop topics include:
- Voting Rights: Voting 4 Tomorrow
- BIPOC Mental Health & Wellness
- Critical Race Theory
- Native American Land Stewardship
- Homelessness & Housing Justice
- Worker Exploitation in the Garment Industry
- Social Justice in STEM
- Therapeutic Activism – A Special Film Screening
This conference will be in person, adhering to current safety protocols, which includes wearing a mask and showing your clearance badge/symptom tracker (for UCSC affiliates). For visitors to UCSC, please note that UC Santa Cruz has COVID-19 guidelines for in-person events. When you arrive, please provide proof of vaccination OR a recent negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of the start of the event (must be a lab PCR test; home tests/antigen tests are not valid). Campus visitors will also be asked to complete a symptom tracker and are required to wear masks indoors. Additional information can be found here.
