About the CERI

Interested in learning how to do community-engaged research with experienced faculty in the gorgeous California coast? Please join the UC Santa Cruz Institute for Social Transformation and UC Santa Cruz’s Everett Program, the Center for Collaborative Research for an Equitable California (CCREC), the Center for Labor Studies, and the Blum Center for a four day intensive Community Engaged Research Institute.

We will introduce graduate students, early career scholars, and community members to the foundations, ethics, methods, tools and democratic aspects of collaborative research.

Through seminars, roundtables, and hands-on workshops, participants will develop skills and knowledge to begin engaging in equity-oriented community-based collaborative research. All sessions will be facilitated by experienced collaborative researchers (both university- and community-based).

Institute Costs

We use tiered prices to accommodate a diverse group of community engaged research practitioners. Community representatives and graduate students pay a reduced rate of $800. The rate for full-time private or academic researchers and faculty is $1,400, which helps cover staffing costs and scholarships for other attendees. We keep attendance to no more than 30 to ensure a qualitative experience for all. Conference fees include all conference events, workshops, panels, case study trips, and all meals.

Housing will be provided in UCSC campus apartments with check-in on Monday, June 24 and check-out on Thursday, June 27. These are single rooms in shared apartments, typically four attendees to an apartment. The cost for housing is $313.17.

Limited scholarships are available, based on need, through the application process. The average scholarship amount given is $300. Please let us know if any specific accommodation would allow you to attend.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and no-shows received less than 48 hours prior to the groups contracted arrival date will be charged the full conference rate for the contracted number of nights. All other inquiries about refunds/cancellation will be given at rates standard to how the university refunds us for using summer conference services.
